As part of Literacy Week, all CAMS students were treated to an assembly with New York Times best selling author, Maria Scrivan.
Ms. Scrivan has written a middle-grade graphic novel series about Natalie, a girl who feels she isn't athletic, stylish, or talented enough, especially after her best friend starts to drift away in middle school. The series follows Natalie's journey of self-discovery as she navigates friendships, learns to embrace her own talents, and realizes she is more than enough just as she is. CAMS students asked the author fantastic questions, got her autograph, and watched how she illustrates some of characters!

On Wednesday, February 11th, 8th grade students had the incredible opportunity to visit the Connecticut Superior and Supreme Courts, gaining a firsthand look at how the state’s judicial system operates. During the visit, students observed live court cases, witnessing the legal process in action and seeing how judges, attorneys, and other court personnel carry out their roles.
In addition to observing proceedings, students met with a range of legal professionals, including Superior Court judges, defense attorneys, prosecutors, probation officers, and even the Chief Justice of Connecticut, the Honorable Raheem Mullins. These meetings allowed students to ask questions about career paths in law, courtroom procedures, and the responsibilities of each role within the judicial system.
The experience provided students with a deeper understanding of the legal system, including how cases are evaluated, argued, and decided. They also learned about the importance of fairness, ethics, and public service in the justice system. Many students noted that the visit was inspiring, giving them a new appreciation for the work of judges and legal professionals, and motivating some to consider careers in law or public service.
Overall, the visit to the Connecticut courts was an eye-opening experience, combining observation, discussion, and professional insight, and leaving students with valuable lessons about the judicial process and the role of law in society.

In partnership with the University of Hartford, Bloomfield Public Schools is happy to offer students entering Grades 1 through 9 in the Fall of 2026 the opportunity to attend Summer Place for one week at no cost.
Please note we will be using a lottery system as this opportunity is for a limited number of students. The application will open on January 9th at 9:00 a.m. and close January 30th at 4:00 p.m.

Ms. Richardson's SOAR program students enjoyed a field trip to the Connecticut History Museum on Friday. Students learned all about the American Revolution!
Last week, Ms. Crimi and Ms. Jones lead their 7th and 8th grade students in a wonderful winter concert. All of the songs were performed beautifully!

Students in Mr. Bessette’s 8th-grade ELA classes debate controversial issues surrounding the thematic subject matter of Trevor Noah’s memoir, Born a Crime.
7th graders were treated to a bus tour of several historical sites in town during their social studies classes today. The Wintonbury Historical Society sponsored the trip and also acted as tour guides. Students got to see the Gillette House, Bissell House, the Old Farm School, and toured the Filley House. This tour served as the real world application for the Bloomfield history project students recently completed in Mr. Taylor's and Ms. Calabro's classes.
8th grade students were treated to lab activity by the Connecticut Science Center. Our students extracted DNA from saliva in order to learn what it is like to be a molecular biologist!
Author Rick Cochran visited CAMS yesterday to share his research on Bloomfield residents who fought in the Civil War. The 7th grade was able to connect this presentation with their learning as they recently completed a Bloomfield history project in Ms. Calabro's and Mr. Taylor's social studies classes
